Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

The first time I went to fighting, it was called "flying" in Ames. They were cutting onions and our whole table was all crying. Hilarious. The food was outstanding however. Fast forward to this place. My first experience was good, and my second was blah. The staff is super friendly and quite hilarious. The space is well designed and comfy, but something happened to the food. The flavor is lifeless and pretty run of the mill. Certainly not a bad experience, but not quite 3 stars either. I'm going back to give them another shot, I'll report back. (As if anyone cares...)

The first time I went to the Fighting Burrito, I got a burrito with chicken in it. I must say, I was not happy with it. The chicken was kind of dry and really not that good. My friend told me that the pork and beef were tasty so I gave that a try and am glad I did. It was significantly better. 3 stars because it was alright. Since they are burritos, it does take a bit of time to make so the line can be long and the wait a fair amount of time even if there aren't that many people ahead of you.

Man I have always loved the Fighting Burrito in Ames. Always got great service and good food, even when it was called Flying Burrito! But my recent experience in Des Moines was not over the moon! The service was great, clean place, lines at lunch moved fast, and got my veggie Burrito quick and I love how they substitute guac for free, if you don't have meat or cheese on your burrito! Now I ate my Burrito and it could be a coincidence but about 20 minutes later my stomach was in nots and I did not feel good! This was not just I'm full not feel good but a I feel sick! I kinda felt that way the rest of the day! I'm not saying it was from my Burrito but there was a chance it may have been! I also did not think it was as good of a burrito as I have had up in Ames.. Oh well I will try it again sometime. As the service was great!

Better than other big chain burrito restaurants in my opinion. They have the great vegetarian option of Rizo as a meat substitute. They have more options in the tortilla, vegetables, and hot sauce departments than your typical big chain burrito restaurants. Great service, workers are friendly, cleanliness is good. The food is decently priced, I would just recommend to avoid going there during the lunch hour rush.

The staff was nice and welcoming but the food wasn't the best. It was by no means bad, just simply meh. I'll probably come back and try again in a month or two to see if anything changes.

Found out about The Fighting Burrito this past week. I'd spent the better part of my morning trying to break my lame front wheel drive rental car from its icy chains to no avail. The boyfriend found me dejected and grumpy because the stupid car wasn't budging despite all of my heroic attempts. He suggested that I look at this burrito place "that's way better than Chipotle" to help me find my happy place once more. "They deliver as well." I'm sold. The website's extremely easy to maneuver and its interface is iPad friendly. Other reviews are spot on: it's a cheaper version of Chipotle. It's also way tastier. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's even better than Freebirds (don't hit me, Laur!). I've tried the pulled pork and chicken in burrito and bowl form. Both have great flavor; however, the latter was way too spicy for me to enjoy. I personally don't tolerate spicy foods well. The pulled pork was tender enough for my two toothed eleven month old to enjoy. One time my delivery order got messed up. A quick call and chat with the friendly manager and the stuff that was missing from my order was delivered in a timely manner along with a free cookie. Great food and good service. Definitely worth checking out!

I came here to see if they were able to match the food quality of Chipotle, Qdoba, and Pancheros. The layout here is nice and modern. One interesting thing about this place is they have a list of burritos with interesting names that have all the ingredients mapped out for you. Although I did not try one of those preplanned combinations, I thought they looked unique and creative. The food quality is great here, it is on par with the last two other places I mentioned. I am a huge Chipotle fan and so far no place has topped them in my book. The staff here fits the surrounding downtown scene, young and hip. I would try this place again to see how their preplanned combos are.

HORRIBLE! And expensive! Went there for my husband and me a bowl plus a burrito came up to 26$ pricey given that I didn't even get drinks the burrito was bland and they barely gave us any meat and guac very small servings for the money I felt like all I was eating was rice go to chipotle! You will get more food for way less money plus way better taste ing!

I wonder if I just got a bad batch of rice or something.I wouldn't call it completely raw, but it was about 20% of the way to being actually cooked. RIce is not something you want to eat al dente. It completely ruined the entire burrito that I got. What confused me is that I also found gloopy paste consistency globs of wayyyy overcooked rice as well. How is this possible? Yuck.

Ordered for pick up because the hotel less than a mile away "wasn't in their delivery area". They forgot to make half the order. Had to go back and get it. The kid working the phone and register was either high, or really, really didn't care about his job. I'd rather pay more for Chipotle if it meant better customer service and actually getting the order correct.

Great quesadillas - don't know how I didn't eat here every day while I was preggo. I'm addicted to their shredded beef. Service is always awesome.

Vegan/Vegetarian friendly! This is a great place to grab a quick bite. The service is always fantastic and speedy. It can get a little crazy during the lunch hours on the weekdays because they are so close to the downtown corporate goings on. All of their ingredients are fresh and I haven't eaten anything there that I didn't like. Plus, they serve a select list of bottled beer to go with your burrito - what a perfect combination!

Yes, I'm updating an update. After some mild food poisoning last year, I decided to stay away. Someone suggested that I give them another chance and I have. After going back a few times, I've had pleasant experiences. It looks like just about no one who worked there a year or so ago is still there (and if one of them wasn't handling food properly, then the problem has been solved). Food is still pretty solid but prices are definitely 50-70 cents more than they used to be. Still, I strongly prefer this to Chipotle or Qdoba.

Didn't even know they were in town. Stopped by on a Saturday and unfortunately the place was pretty empty. Ordered and our burritos were made fresh right in front of us. The burritos were very large and I managed to finish it but probably shouldn't have as it did not help my waistline at all. Skip the chips and queso because it doesn't even compare to your local mexican joint's chips n cheese. The queso was decent but only a small amount for too big of a price. Definitely worth a try. I would like to try the one in Ames to see how it compares. They are opening one in Ankeny which should be open soon.

I always get the salad bowl here. Pork is the meat I usually get because IMO it's the most flavorful. Service is fast and food is great. I used to work literally upstairs at Nationwide & I went here frequently. I have never gotten sick...so far anyways lol.

Found this place by accident when we just couldn't figure out where Ritual Cafe was. Essentially a Chipotle-like place, but with a soy chorizo option for vegetarians. Burritos are named after various greats (Susan B Anthony, Jesse Owens) and the food was good and ambience fine.

I'm not a huge fan of burritos but this place is GOOD. I was in a rush at work and needed something to eat so I called the first place that advertises delivery in this area around my office and they delivered it FAST! Not only that, I actually enjoyed a burrito. Their chips are quite tasty as well, I must say. I definitely recommend this place for when you only have a few minutes AND when you have time to savor your meals. Then let me know what you do for a living that allows you such time during the day. :)

I only got queso and chips, thinking no one could mess that up. I was wrong. Queso and cheese soup are two very different things, but apparently, they aren't aware of that. So I ended up with cheese soup and chips. My friend's burrito featured undercooked, "crunchy" rice.

We were in from out of town and found this to be a local place that serves good food at a fair price. Clean shop with friendly service and an overall good vibe about the place. I had the Tank Man and my wife has the Sweet Susan B both were very good. Our four kids had the kids burritos and loves them. If you have time get take out and eat at the outdoor sculpture park that is down one block.

Like a cheaper chipotle. I like their soyrizo option for veggies, so you at least get some extra protein (unlike at chipotle or qdoba). They also are happy to oblige if you ask for extra rice and beans-at no charge. Service is great, and the food is good. While I was in town there were various promotions going on for BOGO which was nice as well. I will add that the options for salsas, toppings, and flavored sour creams means there are a lot of different combinations to try, so you're unlikely to get bored of this place fast.

New favorite place for burritos. One of my favorite things is that you can get a mini burrito, which makes it much easier to consider eating here more often. I like their options for building your own or trying one of their combinations, there's much more variety than chipotle or qdoba. I had the sweet Susan b or something like that, which had a great peach salsa, delicious beef and chipotle sour cream: really good! Other people in my group built their own and no one was disappointed. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't busy, which made for a nice lunch. We'll definitely keep this in mind next time we want burritos!
